I met Audrey only once when she was presented by the Mayor with her Civic Award from the London Borough of Merton for her multiple contributions. I replaced her as the Humanist representative on the Standing Advisory Committee for Religious Education, and it became clear immediately what an influence she had been on the syllabus and in the Borough, and in what high regard she was held. I made a point of mentioning her when we did round-the-table introductions at the meetings I have attended so far. At the last meeting that took place days before she passed, this resulted in further spontaneous tributes, which were minuted. She was truly an example to follow.
